Winners of the Fundamental and Applied Research Project Competition

At the very end of August, we received the results of the annual competition for Fundamental and Applied Research Projects organised by the Latvian Council of Science. Funding has been approved for four research projects led by colleagues from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS):

  • Edgars Liepiņš: Novel metabolic therapy for the complication management of inherited fatty acid oxidation disorders.
  • Teodors Panteļejevs: Next-generation fluorescent probes for monitoring protein unfolding.
  • Aiva Plotniece: Exploring the Behavior of Self-assembling Styrylpyridinium and Its Aza-Analog Fluorescent Probes within Liposomes as Mimics of Biological Membranes (LipAgrStyrPro).
  • Renāte Vaisgerberga: Novel source towards challenging monofluorocarbene.

In addition Antons Sizovs (LIOS) will participate as a partner of Riga Technical University and Rīga Stradiņš University in both of these projects:

RTU: Chemically modified hyaluronic acid hydrogels for enhanced bone healing through local metabolite delivery (MetaGEL).

RSU: Castable and printable protein-based screws and plates for bone tissue engineering and fracture management.

This year, 598 projects were submitted to the open competition for Fundamental and Applied Research Projects.
