The MR LATVIA Project is a pioneering initiative focused on establishing a regional centre of excellence in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS). Specializing in (bio)pharmaceuticals research, the project bridges collaboration between LIOS and two top-class European NMR centres:
- Centre de RMN à Très Hauts Champs in Lyon, France.
- Consorzio Interuniversitario Risonanze Magnetiche di Metallo Proteine in Florence, Italy.
Our mission is to create a national NMR core facility that strengthens Latvia’s research ecosystem while contributing to European-level advancements in NMR applications.
Key Objectives
- Enhance research and innovation performance at LIOS.
- Raise the research profile of LIOS staff and boost administrative capacities.
- Transfer expertise through inter-institutional seminars, scientific events, and on-the-job training for early-stage researchers.
- Develop LIOS into a regional NMR hub, integrating with Europe’s leading NMR research infrastructures.
Activities & Impact
- Joint research projects with advanced partners.
- Hosting workshops, summer schools, and conferences to disseminate knowledge.
- Providing access to NMR instrumentation and expertise to researchers across Latvia and the Baltic Sea region.
Long-term Vision
Through strategic networking and collaboration, MR LATVIA aims to close the research and innovation gap within Europe. Our goal is to establish LIOS as a critical node in the European NMR network, driving scientific excellence and regional innovation in the Baltic region.
