On Wednesday, 28 January, the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) welcomed Prof. Dr. Mark Brönstrup from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Germany.
Prof. Brönstrup delivered a lecture entitled “Assault, Siege, Trojan Horses or Gentle Disarmament: Molecular Strategies to Fight Bacterial Infections”. He provided an engaging overview of current molecular approaches to combating bacterial infections – from traditional antibiotics to innovative strategies such as Trojan horse delivery systems and anti-virulence approaches that aim to disarm pathogens rather than eliminate them entirely. The lecture sparked a lively discussion and offered many thought-provoking perspectives at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and medicine.
Research into new drug candidates for the treatment of bacterial infections is an active area at LIOS, making this lecture particularly relevant for the scientific community.
The event took place within the framework of LIOS activities as a national node of EU-OPENSCREEN (Project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/013).
LIOS expresses its sincere thanks to Prof. Brönstrup for a stimulating and insightful visit.
