Two productive days of networking and communication at Europe’s largest drug discovery conference, Drug Discovery 2024 – ELRIG, in London, have come to a close. Aigars Jirgensons, Deputy Director of Research, and Anna Stikāne, Head of the Technology Transfer Department, represented the Institute at the LIOS stand and believe the event has been potentially fruitful for Latvia.
“During the event, we held more than 50 meetings with representatives from various companies,” says Anna Stikāne. “We introduced and showcased our research and services to potential collaboration partners. For some of the companies we met, their current needs align with what we offer, so we are hopeful for future cooperation.”
On 2nd and 3rd October, the OSI stand attracted interest from business leaders, representatives of various technologies and cutting-edge research equipment, as well as students enquiring about internship and PhD opportunities at the institute in Latvia.
“A valuable and busy exhibition, providing the opportunity to meet face-to-face with various market players, potential and existing collaboration partners,” remarked one attendee.
One of LIOS’s key areas of focus is commercial projects, where its scientific staff conducts commissioned research to meet the needs of Latvian and international companies. Additionally, businesses have the opportunity to acquire LIOS inventions to develop market products based on scientific discoveries.
The 2025 Drug Discovery – ELRIG conference will take place on 21st and 22nd October in Liverpool, England.
LIOS ‘s participation in the event is part of the EU project “Promoting Research and Internationalisation in the Development of Latvia’s Life Sciences Sector Collaboration Network” (Project No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/3/24/A/CFLA/003).
