On Monday, 9 December, the leadership and Scientific Council of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) met with the International Advisory Board at LIOS headquarters. Over the past two years, the Advisory Board has actively overseen LIOS’s activities, offering strategic solutions to enhance operational efficiency and foster growth.
Following last year’s decision to merge two of Latvia’s foremost research institutions—LIOS and the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre (BMC)—the insights and expertise of international colleagues have been instrumental in advancing this process.
The International Advisory Board includes distinguished scientists, industry leaders, representatives from Latvian scientific universities, the Science and Education Workers’ Union, and policymakers in the field of science.
During the meeting, Advisory Board members reviewed LIOS’s key achievements in 2024, commending the institute for its notable progress. They encouraged all parties to view the upcoming merger in 2026 as a unique opportunity to create a world-class scientific institution, capable of driving innovation and excellence in research.
With the merger, LIOS and BMC aim to build a cutting-edge institution that strengthens Latvia’s global presence in science and serves as a model of international collaboration.
